The Right Laser for the Job

11/21/2012 12:30:00 PM by Vanish Laser Tattoo Removal And Skin Aesthetics

As with anything it is important to have the right tool for the job. While a butter knife may be a decent substitute for a flathead screwdriver, it isn’t the best option. The butter knife is more pliable than a screwdriver and may bend, making it unsuitable for spreading butter at the dinner table. Sometimes the butter knife is too wide to fit into the tight opening provided for the screw, so even though it would be able to turn the screw, it can’t get close enough to actually do the job.

Likewise you would want to make sure the right laser is being used for your laser tattoo removal procedure. Though some lasers may get decent results, are they the best option for the job? Some hair removal lasers are able to be recalibrated to make them safe to use for tattoo removal. Most hair removal lasers, however, apply the energy for far too long which often results in scarring. So even if a hair removal laser can be recalibrated for laser tattoo removal, be careful. After a few treatments a noticeable difference can be seen, but will that laser ever be able to truly remove all of the ink from the tattoo? Possibly, but if it’s not the best laser for the job, you may be going back more times than is necessary. A cheaper price per session may result in more sessions, and in the long run may not save you any money or time.

The tattoo pictured below was treated about 8 times with a recalibrated hair removal laser. The photo on the left shows the tattoo after those 8 treatments. The owner of the tattoo said that visible results were seen with the first few treatments, but after that, the results were not as impressive. It became obvious that this particular laser was never going to completely remove the tattoo. Other options for complete removal were sought.  When the tattoo arrived at Vanish it was obvious that some fading had occurred, but more was possible with the use of the Trinity Laser by Astanza, a laser specifically designed to remove tattoo ink and other skin pigment. The photo on the right shows the dramatic difference just one treatment with the right laser made on the tattoo. This photo was taken about 1 month after the first treatment at Vanish. The owner of the tattoo is very pleased by the results so far.

When researching laser tattoo removal, remember it is imperative that the facility you choose is using a laser specifically designed for removal of tattoo ink and other pigment. If you are unsure, ask the facility staff what type of laser they are using and research that particular laser. Keep in mind that tattoo removal technology is not cheap. If a price quote sounds too good to be true, it may very well be.

Considering Laser Tattoo Removal?

8/8/2012 4:38:00 PM by Vanish Laser Tattoo Removal And Skin Aesthetics

So, you're thinking about getting your tattoo off, but just can't make up your mind.  Is it worth the money and time to get it off?  Obviously, there's a lot of factors that come into play there, including some personal preferences, but here's a few questions to think about in your decision-making process:

1)  Do I feel like my tattoo is holding me back?  In my job?  In my emotions (link to an ex-, previous lifestyle), etc?

2) Does the tattoo reflect who I am now?  Often, we'll get patients that have many tattoos and only want one off.  Often the offending tattoo was their first one or done during "a phase."

3) Am I willing to do the full treatment?  Removal with Vanish's laser is highly effective, but it is a process.  If you want it off in one or 2 treatments, it might not be right for you.  While a few tattoos can be significantly removed in a few treatments, most require a commitment of 8-12 visits to completely remove them.

4)  If I don't want to do the full removal process, am I ok with just fading it?  This is an option too.

5) Do I want to re-tattoo over the area?  If you do, then using our laser tattoo removal process is the way to go.  With the best odds against scarring, this method allows you the option to re-tattoo over the same area later.

6) Do I have a deadline?  It's important to plan ahead if you want to be ready for a certain event (like a wedding!)  Allow yourself enough time to get the results you want- don't leave this decision to the last minute!

Age Spot or Warning Sign?

6/25/2012 1:24:00 PM by Vanish Laser Tattoo Removal And Skin Aesthetics

Here at Vanish, with the use of our Trinity Laser, our certified laser specialists are able to remove a wide variety of skin discolorations from age spots and sun damage, to freckles, and more.  When seeking to have an age spot or other discoloration removed, it is important to know that it is merely a begnin pigmented lesion and not something more serious.  Warning signs are easily remembered by thinking of your ABC's.

  • A: Asymmetry, if the spot is irregular in shape, it may be more serious than a simple cosmetic issue.
  • B:  Border, if the spot has a border around it, you should seek a dermatology professional before attempting to have the spot removed.
  • C:  Color, if the area is irregular in color, it may be an indicator of something more severe.
  • D:  Diameter, if the spot is larger than a pencil eraser, it may be a warning sign.
  • E:  evolving, if the spot changes over a period of time, you will want to have it checked out.  Freckles and age spots typically do not change once they appear.

While Vanish is eager to help you with removing skin discolorations for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, we are first and foremost committed to ensuring the safety of our patients.  If any spot appears to be more than merely a cosmetic issue, we will ask that you have a professional check it out before continuing with laser removal treatment.

How long after my first laser tattoo removal session should I expect to see results?

6/20/2012 1:05:00 PM by Vanish Laser Tattoo Removal And Skin Aesthetics

One session will not be enough to completely remove a tattoo, but just how long does it take to start seeing results?

No two people nor two tattoos are exactly the same.  The time it will take to start seeing results after your first laser tattoo removal session depends on many factors; where the tattoo is, how old it is, whether it's a professional or homemade tattoo, your body's immune response, how active you are, and so on.  With that being said, our experience has been that our patients start seeing at least minor fading within the first month after treatment.  One patient even saw a great deal of fading just a few days after his first treatment.  While it is possible to see results that quickly, please be aware that fading that quickly is not typical.  Some tattoos even look a bit darker a few days after treatment due to increased blood flow to the area.  That type of response is temporary, and by your next treatment you should notice at least some minor fading.

What should I expect on my first visit to Vanish?

6/8/2012 2:02:00 PM by Vanish Laser Tattoo Removal And Skin Aesthetics

With the recent opening of Vanish, we thought you might be wondering, "what should I expect on my first visit?"

First off, you can expect to be greeted by our friendly staff when you come in the door.  After your paperwork is complete you will have the opportunity to meet privately with our staff to discuss your goals and your particular tattoo/age spots/discolorations.  Based on that information you will receive the answers to these questions:

Am I a candidate for laser age spot/discoloration/tattoo removal?

What will treatment involve?/How many sessions will it take?

                    How much will it cost?

Based on your consultation, you may decide you want to start treatment right away.  We can perform your procedure the same day.  The amount of time required for the procedure varies based on the size of the age spot/discoloration/tattoo, but the average time is 15 minutes!  After your procedure, we will schedule your follow-up visits so you can get them on your schedule.

The goals of follow-up visits are to answer any questions you may have, monitor your progress, perform your procedure, and make sure everything is going well.

The consulation is free of charge and there is no obligation to start treatment.  Why put it off any longer?  Call or come in today.
