Hair loss may be more than just embarrassing for some men, it may also be a signal of heart disease. Researchers have suspected a connection between hair loss and heart disease. Doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, have found that men who lose hair on the crown of their head (not those who have a receding hairline and are losing hair at the front of the head) have a higher risk of heart disease. In fact, men who are losing hair from the crown, have high blood pressure and high cholesterol are three times more likely to have heart disease than men who also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but have a full head of hair. Hair loss or “balding” is a very common condition that is usually inherited. It affects 30-40% of adult men.
