We appeared at the Airport Courthouse today on an old domestic violence case. The client had a one-year-old bench warrant for previous domestic violence charges. The sentence was domestic violence classes, community service and fines and fees. Although the domestic violence classes were completed, the community service was only partially complete and the fees were outstanding. The judge threatened the client with jail time for the unfinished community service and for “being a fugitive for a year.” Mr. Rubenstein was able to persuade the judge to give the client another chance to finish the previous requirements.
