Water Saving Tips for the California Drought – Why Good Plumbing is Important

Efficient Plumbing in the Inland Empire We all know the drought is a serious problem and that conserving water is essential to preventing disaster. But sometimes it’s hard to transfer that idea into common day-to-day practices. Here are a few things you can do: Use Your Garbage Disposal Less This one is easy to forget – garbage disposals use a lot of water in their operation. They can also be hard on your septic tank. Try to reduce your use of the garbage disposal when possible. Get an Efficient Shower Head Along with taking shorter showers, which is a great way to reduce water use, consider investing in a water-efficient shower head. This can be a new shower head, or something that attaches to your existing one, and could even cut your water consumption in half. Fix Drips or Leaks They’re annoying to listen to, yes, but drippy faucets also use a lot of water unnecessarily. Make sure your faucets, toilets, garden hoses, and other water-using appliances aren’t leaking or dripping. If they are, a certified plumber can fix the problem. OneStop Plumbers is your helpful, reliable, California-certified plumber in the Corona, Riverside, Chino, and Yorba Linda areas, as well as the rest of the Inland Empire. Slab Leaks in Corona, Ca on the Rise

10/7/2014 2:55:00 AM by OneStop Plumbers - Plumbing and Leak Detection

Why Do Slab Leaks Happen? We’ve recently been getting increased calls from the Corona area about underground slab leaks and pinhole leaks, but why are these leaks happening? Here are some reasons why. Corrosion The interaction between the water balance inside a pipe and soil outside of it can induce electrolysis in metallic pipes, causing corrosion inside or outside the pipes, and eventually causing holes. Many homes that were built during Corona’s housing development spur, starting around 1989, were designed to supply potable water to the home via copper pipes that reside in the soil under the foundation. It’s not surprising that 25 years later many of these homes are experiencing pipe corrosion that is prompting slab leaks. Abrasion Water moving through pipes makes them vibrate or expand and contract, rubbing them over whatever is around them. Over time the pipe will grate until it finally springs a leak. Pressure Earthquakes or poor construction causes pipes to experience high amounts of pressure. This can lead to pipes being crushed or creased, which in turn is a recipe for disaster. Slab Leaks can cause significant damage to your home so if you suspect a slab leak, contact One Stop Plumbers right away and we will send one of our slab leak plumbers to your home as quickly as possible.
