Project took almost twice as long as originally told.. He went on vacation for 3 weeks during the construction period and never mentioned this at the time of accepting the job that he was doing this. Billed for a number of items that were not outlined in the original contract and did not present change orders for these items giving us an opportunity to consider whether or not to approve these items. Now he has filed a lien in an attempt to recover these unauthorized charges. In addition, one of the jobs he performed was to build out our master bedroom/bath over our garage. He used spray foam insulation rather than standard fiberglass insulation in the roof, and as a result, as I now know, although spray foam is a good insulator, it is VERY poor at soundproofing. Being that this is a bedroom on the top floor, I feel he was VERY negligent in installing this type of insulation as we now have to wear earplugs on rainy nights because you can hear EVERY drop of rain as it falls, quite loudly. Our childrens' rooms are also on the top floor, but had existed previously and are completely silent during rain as they have the standard fiberglass insulation. There also was not an instant in the the 6 months of the job (okay maybe 1-2) where he showed up before 11am. And his subcontractors were not much better. I would STRONGLY suggest that you keep looking for another contractor.
