San Jose is full of fun and adventure. The city includes parks, museums, areas of interest and beautiful scenery. Be sure to check out a few of the events listed here if you have a chance to spend any time in San Jose.

1. Santana Row

This chic row of shops is upscale, but it's free to walk along the storefronts and view the eclectic group of shoppers. It has been hailed as the best people watching spot in the city. Sit at the tables in the center of the avenue or stroll along the sidewalks, watching for fancy cars in the parking lot. The shops open at 10 a.m. Some close at 9 p.m.

2. Great America

This theme park isn't Disneyland - it's smaller with less wait times. It includes roller coasters, carnival booths and performers. There is an area for families of smaller children where the whole family can enjoy smaller rides or age-appropriate entertainment. The area also includes a water park.

3. Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

Glean a taste of Egypt in the heart of California! This museum hosts the largest Egyptian collection on the West Coast. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends.

4. Tech Museum of Innovation

This blue-domed museum attracts many children thanks to its hands-on activities. There is an I-MAX theater here which shows educational and feature films. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5. San Jose Museum of Art

This museum helps bring culture to San Jose downtown. The collection is that of 20th and 21st century artists. The exhibits are quirky and interesting with staff who are very proud of their museum. It is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

6. Raging Waters

This water park has some differently designed slides as well as a wave pool. It includes a lazy pool and kid areas. Take a break from the heat here. It is usually open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

7. Winchester Mystery House

This house was the home of the superstitious Sarah Winchester, who kept adding rooms to flee from spirits which she thought were following her. It is one of the oldest in San Jose. The hours can be as complicated as the rooms, so check the website before going.

8. Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph

This church was built in 1803, but was knocked down five times. The present church is the fifth try at an area of worship. Sculptures and the Stations of the Cross make the church worth a visit.

9. California Theater

Take in a show at this theater. Since renovations, this theater has improved its sound and comfort. Visitors rave over its new feel and how enjoyable shows are here. Check the website to find out what is playing and when.

10. Happy Hollow Park and Zoo
