La Mesa First United Methodist Childrens Center

The Children’s Center was established in 1955, operating for 25 years as a morning preschool enrichment program. In 1980 the program expanded to include full day care.
The Children’s Center provides preschool as well as after-school pick-up and supervision for Kindergarten through third grade students at nearby Lemon Avenue Elementary School. Our program offers a constructivist/emergent-inspired approach for children that helps them discover their own interests and passions. We are a non-profit organization supported entirely by tuition, licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services. Children don’t come in “one-size-fits-all” models. Because of our low student-to-teacher ratio, our instructors have time to provide challenges tailored to each child’s developmental level and to work with them to explore problem-solving skills. We provide opportunities for students to develop small and large motor skills, self help and language skills. We supply materials that help students to express their creativity, all while laying the foundation for academic concepts they will encounter in elementary school. The Center works to foster each child’s natural curiosity and grow it into a lifelong love of learning.
