Dr.’s Corner: This is the month of Amore! Love yourself and treat yourself well. One way to do that is through a treatment many ask me about: Bio-Identetical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). As we experience symptoms associated with the Perimenopausal state, including but not limited to, hot flashes, decreased libido, lack of energy, decreased mental clarity, mood swings, anxiety and weight gain, our hormones are most likely imbalanced. There is hope with BHRT. The benefits are weight loss, increased libido, increased mental clarity, rejuvenated energy and bye-bye hot flashes. Take control and get your life back with BRHT. Before starting BHRT, your doctor will first obtain levels of your hormones, usually with a blood or saliva test, and adjust your therapy based on your symptoms and hormone levels. It’s a New Year, the month of love and time to focus on your beauty- Inside & Out! Till next time- Dr. Anayo Umerah “Winterize your Skin!” We all know the cold weather can dry our skin. As soon as you turn the heat on indoors, your face, hands and feet start to lose moisture! There are some steps you can take to give your winter skin regimen a boost. -Your spring and summer moisturizer probably work just fine, but as the weather changes, so should your skin care routine. Find an "ointment" moisturizer that's oil-based, rather than water-based. - Avoid using harsh peels, masks, and alcohol-based tones. They can strip vital oil from your skin. Instead, find a cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser and masks that are “deeply hydrating" rather than clay-based. - A lukewarm bath with oatmeal or baking soda, can help relieve itchy dry skin. So try shorter, warm showers since the intense heat of a hot shower or bath can lead to a loss of moisture. - Use the “stronger stuff” on your feet. Try finding lotions that contain petroleum jelly or glycerine. - Hook up the humidifier! It gets more moisture in the air, which helps prevent your skin from drying. -Schedule a Microderm and improve your winter skin on a budget! Meet with one of our Professional Aestheticians to see which skin regimen is right for you and your skin.
