Why Get Hypnotized?

After telling someone I’m a hypnotherapist, I’m often told, “Oh, I’ve always wanted to try hypnosis”. Discussing it further, the person is curious about the hypnotic state of trance. They want to know what’s it like; want to experience it themselves. That’s only human and healthy.

But in my experience there are many reasons to get hypnotized. The foremost, of course, is to condition your mind to change behavior. Hypnosis allows you to adopt new attitudes and to alter your unwanted behaviors e.g. smoking cessation, nail biting, etc.

Hypnosis is also effective at relieving stress and anxiety. People experience a relaxed, tranquil state during hypnosis, which is beneficial in itself even without suggestion or therapy. Insomniacs have greatly benefitted from hypnosis in the past as they begin to release the accumulated stress.

Hypnosis is like a sport; the more you do it, the better you become at it. A common saying in the field is “all hypnosis is self-hypnosis”. I have found this to be true. Once experiencing hypnosis, the client now understands and recognizes the process of entering a trance, often assisted by the hypnotist. The hypnotist has no “power” over the subject, but is rather the guide for the hypnotic experience. I encourage my clients to take ten minutes a day to think about their session via either a trigger word I’ve given them to assist them or to use a bit of self-hypnosis in order to strengthen the session.

Getting hypnotized is a unique experience and one that can last the rest of your life, as long as you wish it to do so. It is an experience that assists you in changing those things you wish, and gives you greater control over those behaviors that you wish to improve.
