Located just 25 minutes from Milwaukee, and 55 minutes from Chicago, the Kenosha Public Museum and Civil War Museum, make the perfect destination for day trips, family trips, and field trips. The experienced staff and volunteers are trained to guide you through the museums with ease, encouraging questions, and interactions, intertwining the interesting and entertaining aspects of the museum, with the importance and relevance of the chosen curriculum, and to learn more about the local history. From great works of art, to a 360° Civil War Movie, priceless relics to the underground railroad, from flies to fur, these exceptional institutions offer amazing permanent exhibits, as well as many special exhibits, events, workshops and, gallery shows, throughout the year.

A short and FREE Trolley-Car ride away, is the third of these nationally recognized Museums, The Dinosaur Discovery Museum. A popular favorite among visitors, The Dinosaur Discovery Museum works closely with the Carthage Institute of Paleontology and the Institutes on-site laboratory, to provide the most current information and research on the study of dinosaurs. The Dinosaur Discovery Museum is the only Museum to exclusively focus on the link between birds and meat-eating dinosaurs. With fun and educational hands-on activities throughout the year, the Dinosaur Discovery Museum is the perfect place for family time, field trip time, or anytime!

There is truly, something to do, and, something to see, for everyone at the, Kenosha Public Museum, Civil War Museum, and the, Dinosaur Discovery Museum!

Here is just a sample of what the Museums have to offer:

• Dino Tots: Preschool -- Kindergarten 3-5 year olds-- 30 min. Dino Tots is a tour created specifically for preschoolers to give them a simplified introduction to dinosaurs.

• Field Station: Pre-school , Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grades--30 Min. Groups can reserve the Field Station for 30 minutes Tuesday through Friday mornings. The Field Station is the Museum’s hands-on discovery room.

• Dinosaur Digs: Pre-school, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grades--30 min. Children learn about dinosaur excavation, the tools of a paleontologist and then participate in a simulated dig! Group will be split up and work on a rotation between the dig and an activity.

• What is a Dinosaur? –Kindergarten--45 min. This program explores what it means to be a “dinosaur” and gives students hands-on experience with real fossils!

• Wisconsin Wildlife: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grades-- 60 min. Discover what animals live all around us, what they eat, and what adaptations they have for living in their habitats. This program includes hand-on time with real animal pelts.

• Museum Highlight Tour: Kindergarten – Adult -- 60 min. Museum staff or volunteers escort your group on a guided tour through the Dinosaur Discover Museum’s exhibit gallery. The tour also includes a discussion of the Carthage institute of Paleontology on the lower level.

• Discovering Dinosaurs: 2nd Grade--60 min. Discover how paleontologists work together to find and study dinosaur fossil bones. This program includes a discussion of the paleontology lab on the Museum’s lower level and a tour of the exhibit gallery.

• The Life of a Paleontologist: 2nd-4th grades. Learn about dinosaur reconstruction, the tools of a paleontologist, and what sort of things we can learn from studying fossils!

• Fossils: 2nd-3rd-4th-5th Grades--60 min. Learn what a fossil is, how it’s formed, what they can tell us about the past. Hands-on activities and tour of the exhibit.

• People of the Woodlands: 3rd Grade –Adult--60 min—Learn about the 1830’s, Potawatomi, from Southeastern, Wisconsin.

• Digging Mammoths: 3rd Grade – Adult 60 min. Learn about archaeology and how archaeologists discover prehistory buried in the ground.

• King Cotton and the Underground Railroad: 4th & 5th Grades 90 min. Students learn about slavery and the Southern economy in general in this interactive program. Make sure you ask about enhancing your learning experience by adding a Theatre Program to you activities.

• The Midwest in the Civil War: 8th & 9th Grades 2 hours. Using “The Fiery Trial” exhibit as the classroom, students see what Midwesterners thought were the causes of the Civil War, what motivated different groups to enlist in the army, and how the Civil War affected the Midwest.

• Theatre Programs: 4th – 12 Grades--50 Minutes--(30 min. Performance, 20 min. Q&A), Maximum 125 People - Minimum 45 people . History comes alive when students interact with profession actors portraying historical figures. These characters create memorable experiences for students by showing them how the Civil War affected everyday people.

Group leaders guide their groups through the exhibits at their own pace, while using their own or museum developed materials.
