Seasonal fruits and vegetables are important for our health. They provide essential nutrients and help us keep our body fit, but do you eat them?

Since the summer season has arrived, the farm markets have been offering fresh produce of seasonal fruits and vegetables and you must visit your nearest farm market to get them. Following are some fruits and vegetable you should add in your basket this summer:

Asparagus:

Before asparagus gets out of season, visit your nearest Farm market Philadelphia PA and snatch it up. The fleshy green spears of asparagus are tender and succulent and rich in fiber, folate, iron and vitamins A, C, K and B1. While you can use this vegetable in salads, they add a delicious flavor to risottos and pastas as well.

While Philadelphians like steamed asparagus, you can grill or roast the spears of this vegetable too. In addition, it is a low-calorie veggie and, thus, perfect for weight conscious people.

Corn:

While corn serves as a delicious addition to a meal, it carries numerous health benefits too. It is a rich source of minerals and vitamins A, B and E. It is rich in fiber and, therefore, prevents colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, and constipation. In addition, it contains folate, magnesium and phosphorous, which are also essential for one’s health.

Include them in salads, soups or make delicious vegetable pies.

Radishes:

If you live in Philadelphia, you can enjoy the farm fresh radishes till September. They are a rich source of folate, fiber, potassium and vitamin C. Eat raw or pickled, but include them in your diet this summer.

Blueberries:

As much as they are attractive, they are nutritious too. The good news is they are in season and available in the farm markets. This is the most versatile fruit because one can put them in cereal, pies, salads, baked goods, pancakes, etc. They are a good source of anthocyanins, fiber and vitamins C, B6 and K.

 Cherries:

Cherries, too, are in the season and you should gobble them up because they contain fiber, anthocyanins and vitamin C. With these nutrients, this fruit reduces inflammation, promotes better sleep and prevents muscle damage. This tangy fruit could be used in desserts as well as baked goods.
