The Civil War Museum, part of the Kenosha Public Museums, Kenosha, WI is a gem of a Midwest vacation or tourist destination. Gracing the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, this museum offers so much more than a stroll through displays of memorabilia and pictures; it’s a journey back in time. The newest attraction,“Seeing The Elephant” a 360° Movie Experience, life size dioramas, war time reenactments, and deeply personal accounts of the people who lived through it, bring the sights and sounds of battle up-close; drawing guests into the Civil War EXPERIENCE.
As part of the trio of Kenosha Public Museums, including the Dinosaur Discovery Museum, the Civil War Museum focuses on the perspective of the people of the Midwest. These six states; Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, sent 750,000 of their fathers, sons, husbands and brothers, to serve the Union Army in its fight for freedom and equality for all. The Midwest not only sent soldiers to the battlefront, they were a main source of supplies necessary for the Northern States to continue in the fight.
The impact of the Civil War upon the Midwestern States is presented with stunning interactive exhibits, such as “The Fiery Trial” using state of the art museum technology, life-size dioramas, and of course, the latest contribution to the already impressive collection, “Seeing The Elephant”, a 360° Movie Experience. This production is truly one of the best Civil War attractions in the country. See the preview of Seeing The Elephant at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhWMNqe7hz8
