Frequently Asked Questions about Reach Resource Services

No. The programs are designed to serve those in need without restriction from where they live. However, the programs are designed to focus on persons in Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee Counties. The shelters are located in the City of Flint and can only be accessed there. Rapid Rehousing options can be located anywhere throughout Genesee County.
The services of the programs are individualized to meet the needs of those seeking services. No youth, adult, or family is ever turned away from receiving support. Making a phone call, dropping by to see the staff, and/or reaching out to the case manager that provided care is the most immediate way to explore further help. Aftercare is available upon request at any time. The ability to return to shelter is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, ensuring the safety of residents is a top priority. We have trained staff to create a secure and supportive environment. Both in the shelters and on the streets, staff will always provide a safe and secure environment for youth and families to be served.
REACH offers shelter for 21 days, outpatient counseling for up to 90 days and aftercare for up to 6 months. Traverse Place offers shelter for 21 months. Ongoing aftercare is available for an amount of time negotiated between the youth and their case manager. Rapid Rehousing provides longer-term support with rental assistance for up to one year. The goal is to help individuals stabilize their situations and make a safe transition to a more permanent living arrangement. Street Outreach services are available without any barriers to duration of care.
Services are offered at no cost to the youth, adult, or family. Services are funded through government grants, donations, and charitable organizations to ensure that individuals in crisis can access services without financial barriers.
REACH and Traverse Place are both located in the downtown Flint community and older large homes that have been well maintained with private and share bedroom spaces, common living spaces, and offices for case management and counseling sessions.
