3 out of 5
Hey Curtis, talked with you on Thursday about getting the fabric on our swing
Model 421L. We finally got the fabric in place with everything very very loose, but it was a chore.
After assembly was complete and all looked well, the following day my wife was on the swing and came and told me it very wobbly. I went out and looked and the 2 button head bolts that fasten the swing assembly to the bearing assembly were both broke.
The button head sheared off the body of the 3” long bolt.
Thank God the swing did not fall, because one bolt head sheared off above the neck of the bolt which did not allow it to completely fall out of the hole.
It was my understanding when purchased from Greg at the Alameda County Fair that all fasteners were stainless steel. These fasteners are in my opinion a low grade carbon steel fastener flashed with zinc. These fasteners will rust in a matter of a few years outdoors in my opinion.
I replaced the broken fasteners with grade 8 3/8”-16x3”long socket head bolts.
The actual swing design and quality are excellent. I would suggest using better grade fasteners on a quality swing like this. I suggest using a 304 SS button head bolts which are not that much more expensive give the overall price of the swing.
Took a picture of the fractured bolts.
