Our clinical services include:
Diagnosing cancer. Our physicians use state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic modalities to locate and treat cancer. These include computed tomography scans (CT), positron emission tomography scans (PET), and CT-guided bronchoscopy to evaluate cancerous tumors in the lung, liver, and head and neck. We also offer genetic testing and counseling for patients at high risk of breast and colon cancer.

Treating cancer. Interdisciplinary patient care teams provide innovative and comprehensive quality cancer care with maximum effectiveness and the fewest possible side effects.

Cutting-edge technology. Mount Sinai doctors use laparoscopic and other minimally invasive procedures for many types of cancers. Mount Sinai employs the Novalis® Shaped Beam Surgery System — the very latest in stereotactic radiosurgery technology, enabling more precise treatments, reduced risk, and improved quality of life.

Innovative treatments. Our Bone Marrow Transplantation Program offers the least toxic interventions available for leukemia, myeloma, and other blood cancers, making bone marrow transplantation a treatment option for even high-risk individuals, such as frail and elderly patients.

Oncology clinical research. Patients have access to a broad range of clinical trials for a wide variety of cancers. Some of these trials involve introducing genes that kill cancerous cells by causing them to self-destruct. Others strengthen the body's immune system so it can fight the cancer more effectively.

Support for the patient. Patients undergoing chemotherapy receive coordinated counseling, expert nursing care, and educational services in a supportive environment at the Ruttenberg Treatment Center. Social workers are available to counsel families on home care needs.

Support for the family. Mount Sinai provides extensive emotional and informational resources for patients and their families, including support groups, advice for caregivers, and more.
At Mount Sinai, we know that the complexity and diversity of cancer require the highest degree of expert, specialized care. At the same time, we remain focused on a simple guiding principle — to treat the entire person, not just his or her cancer.
Patients and their families find that our clinical leadership, comprehensive range of services, and compassionate, patient-centered approach make Mount Sinai a strong and able ally in their fight against cancer.
