Face Facelift In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jaw line slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving your face a fresher, youthful look. After surgery, some patients appear 10-15 years younger. A facelift can be combined with a browlift, eyelid surgery or nose reshaping for more dramatic results, or it can be restricted to the neck (necklift) if the patient?s problems center there. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in natural folds of the face and ears, and scars fade to near invisibility in time. Results of a facelift do not last forever, but in another sense, the effects are permanent; years later, your face will continue to look better than if you had never had the procedure. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face. Eyelid Surgery Blepharoplasty surgery can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with Botox treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes. The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia and lasts 45 minutes to a few hours depending on how much work is done. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). Dr. Rowe removes excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. In the case that only minimal skin needs to be removed, Dr. Rowe will likely perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars. Dr. Rowe often augments this procedure with laser treatment around the eyes in order to tighten loose skin without making an incision. Dr. Rowe?s surgery may also correct patients who have excess tearing of their eyes. This procedure, cathoplasty, lifts up the sagging lower lid supporting mechanism, to a more youthful position. At the same time it may help treat those patients who suffer from the effects of a loose lower lid, namely, epiphora ?excess tearing of the eyes?. Stitches are removed after three or four days and most people return to work in seven. Contact lenses may not be worn for two weeks. The effects of blepharoplasty can last for a long time and are sometimes even permanent. One of the most common plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty surgery is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person?s nose, change the tip, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the upper lip, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that can also affect breathing. A nose can be made to appear more feminine or masculine, depending on the patient?s desires. Dr. Rowe strives to make a natural appearing nose without the ?cookie-cutter? appearance. He does this after discussing each patient?s anatomy and desires and then they both agree on a plan for their nasal shape. Dr. Rowe performs the surgery via the endonasal (closed) approach, leaving no visible scar of the external (open) approach, leaving a small incision in the skin between the nostrils. The technique used is dependant on the patient?s anatomy and surgical desires. Dr. Rowe specializes in revision and difficult rhinoplasties, taking on difficult cases that he uses his extensive knowledge of nasal cosmetics. Dr. Rowe also performs surgery on the septum (area between the nostrils) if he feels that the patient will benefit from this procedure. This technique may improve a patients breathing if the septum is deviated. Rhinoplasty surgery is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local or general anesthesia and lasts one to two hours. Patients are usually able to return to their normal lifestyle in 2-3 days and will begin to see the results of surgery almost immediately.
