Reasonable Handyman Service

I forgot to mention. I also asked him for references. He gave me 5 references. 1 was a wrong #, 1 was a phone disconnected, 1 was someone that had never heard of him, 1 gave him a good recommendation on a wooden fence built, 1 gave hime a good recommendation on repairing a cabinet that was falling down or apart. I wasn't able to make contact with anyone that had used him for any actual remodeling work, plumbing, electrical, dry wall or cabinet installations. Which is all the work that I needed to get done at my place. He seemed like a good guy, but he just didn't stick to his original quote. Its not my fault he didn't write things down or forgot to include things in his quote. So beware of the add-ons. Alot of these guys are like this, from what I have found by getting many quotes. They bid low or reasonably and later come back & say "Oh, that was not included" or "that's extra" and end up raising the original quote. So again, make sure you have everything written down before agreeing to sign.

Came to my location, gave me a quote, He didn't measure properly and didn't write anything down, even after I suggested he write things down, because there was alot that needed to be done and I didn't want him to miss anything. His response was, "Don't worry, I'll remember, I've been doing this a long time. After a couple of hours of going over everything I wanted done, he left and called me a few days later with a quote. We tentatively agreed upon his quote until we met to sign contract. but before signing contract I decided to do some measuring myself, because I wasn't convinced that things would fit as he said they would. I asked him to come out again & remeasure before signing. Sure enough, his measurements were incorrect. He brought his written contract and as I was reviewing it before signing, I found that he had left many things off of the contract. I questioned him and he said "Don't worry about it, its covered, I'm a simple guy and I don't write all the details". Again, I questioned him on the specifics of the work to be done. He started to say that he didn't charge me for this & that and he forgot to add this & that in and we didn't discuss this & that. I said to him, "that's why i asked you to write things down" and he insisted we did not discuss missing cabinets. I insisted we did. He wanted to tack on more money for cabinets and piping and labor that "he" forgot to include. I offered to eat some of the additional cost, but not all. So, he walked away. So...just a word of advice. Make sure he writes everything down, because later he may say it wasn't included or you didn't discuss it. I really liked him and was looking forward to getting this work done, but after tacking on another $600 to the original quote. I didn't use him So...just be careful & be very thorough.
