Top 10 Dallas Attractions

Located on the banks of the Trinity River in North-Central Texas, Dallas is home to some of the finest arts, entertainment, and sports venues in the nation. What began as a small settlement in the 1840's is today a truly contemporary metropolitan area, with lots of family-friendly fun awaiting out-of-town visitors.

1. Dallas Arts District

This 68-acre district in the heart of the city is home to the magnificent Winspear Opera House, Meyerson Symphony Center, and Dallas Museum of Art. Plenty of grassy knolls and lots of natural beauty as well.

2. West End Historic District

At the western edge of downtown Dallas is the artsy West End. Visitors are encouraged to begin their walking tour at the famous Old Red Courthouse. From there, take in the souvenir shop scene or sit down to a mouthwatering barbeque lunch at one of the fine eating establishments.

3. Dealey Plaza

Overlooking the "triple underpass", where Elm St., Main St., and Commerce St. merge together and link to the western freeways is famed Dealey Plaza. Here you can visit the oldest cabin in the city and walk around the Elm St. curve where one of the nation's most infamous assassinations took place - the shooting of President John F. Kennedy.

4. The Dallas Zoo

This 106-acre zoological park features the Giants of the Savannah exhibit, Endangered Tiger Habitat, and Penguin Cove. Lots of interactive events for children of all ages are found at this newly remodeled zoo. Don't miss the Gorilla Conservation Research Center.

5. Fair Park

Home to the nation's largest State Fair, this park is open year-round and features some very exciting venues. The Science Place is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and the 71,000-seat Cotton Bowl stadium is one of the oldest continuously operating venues of its type in the entire U.S. The park is also home to the largest collection of Art Deco structures in the country.

6. Reunion Tower

Standing next to the Hyatt Regency Hotel is one of the most unique structures in the southwestern region of the United States. Completed in 1978, the 560-foot Reunion Tower gives visitors a 360 degrees view of the downtown area. The restaurant features regional favorites and is open seven days a week.

7. American Airlines Center

One of the most attractive sports venues in Texas, the American Airlines Center is home to the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA.

8. Wild Bill's Western Store

There is something for everyone at this famous retail market. Western-style boots, belts, cowboy hats and more can be found here. Located on Market St. in the downtown area.

9. Galleria Dallas

This sprawling complex of hotels and a 3-level shopping center is a favorite destination for Dallas locals. Kids can spend time at the indoor skate rink, and there is no end to the regionally oriented merchant shops.

10. Dallas Farmers Market

The largest of its kind in the Southwest, this market is located on Pearl St. just south of downtown. Every type of fresh produce can be found here year-round, and souvenir shops abound.
